Play, curiosity, and the builder in us

A preview evening for the Design + AI Summit. I spoke about the builder that lives in every designer, and why play and curiosity are the way through the hype rather than around it.

The talk turned on one question: what are you building this weekend? Not as a grind, and not as another thing to feel behind on. Asked the way you’d ask someone about a dance class — something you do because making things is a pleasure before it is a strategy.

“ÌníOlúwa reintroduced to the room the element of play and curiosity to explore the builder in us as designers, and how it helps us clear the cloud and get through the hype… For the first time, seeing someone say ‘what are you building this weekend?’ did not feel like grinding towards something. More like ‘oh, looks like I might do a dance class now.’”
